RE:     Sustainability Advisory Team (SAT) event – March 11th, 2010

In late 2007, a Sustainability Advisory Team (SAT) was formed to help in the creation of the Severn Sound Sustainability Plan. The SAT consisted of over 50 individuals, with representatives from community organizations, government, businesses and cultural groups. The SAT met seven times through 2007/2008 and, with facilitation by our consultant Lura, provided a comprehensive comment and review of various aspects of the Sustainability Plan until the draft plan was prepared and released in December of 2008. For those that were involved with the SAT, we thank you for all of your efforts in the development of the Severn Sound Sustainability Plan.

The Sustainability Plan is a vision for the Severn Sound watershed in the year 2050. It includes Goals,  Strategic  Directions  and  Actions  that  will,  when  implemented,  ensure  the  sustainability  of  the  watershed  for  generations  to  come.  The Severn Sound Sustainability Plan was finalized and endorsed by all 9 partner municipalities in the Spring of 2009.  For more information about the Sustainability Plan, please see: www.severnsound.ca/sustainability.htm

Currently, the Sustainability Plan Steering Committee is in the process of developing a strategy for the Plan’s implementation. As such, we would like to invite the members of the SAT as well as other interested individuals, to another working session on the Sustainability Plan. The workshop will include a progress update of the Steering Committee’s work and also provide an opportunity for further feedback. The event is scheduled for Thursday, March 11th, 2010 from 6:30pm-9:00pm in Community Hall A at the North Simcoe Sports & Recreation Centre in Midland, Ontario.

If you have any questions, please contact the undersigned.

Yours truly,

Jessica Klug

Joint Community Project Day

Topographical maps will be printed after March 2007

The Coldwater & Area Conservation Club responded to the information in early October that effective March 2007, the Federal Department of Natural Resources would no longer be in the business of printing topographical maps throughout Canada. Since these maps are used by anglers, hunters, trappers and others in the outdoor community stopping the production of these maps are of concern to those who use the outdoors for a variety of activities.

In responce to the club's letters of concern replies have been received from The Honourable Gary Lunn, P.C., M.P., Minister of Natural Resources and from Mr. Bruce Stanton, M.P. - Simcoe North.

Honourable Gary Lunn indicates that upon hearing the former government's plans to eliminate the production of maps, he has reversed the decision. The option of both paper and electronic versions will continue to be offered.

Mr. Bruce Stanton, M.P. Simcoe North reaffirmed Hon. Gary Lunn's decision to continue to supply high quality, current geospatial information either directly or through private-sector distributors in either paper or electronic formats.
